If you’re craving a proper British takeaway experience, Arnold Fish Bar at 97 High St, Arnold, Nottingham NG5 7DQ, United Kingdom is one of those spots that instantly feels familiar and satisfying. From the moment you step up to the counter, there’s a steady rhythm-locals placing orders, tourists curious to try something authentic, and the comforting aroma of freshly cooked food filling the air.

The menu keeps things classic, and that’s exactly what makes it work so well. The Fish and Chips here are the star of the show-crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and served piping hot. If you’re in the mood for something slightly different, the Cod Bites and Chips offer a great alternative, especially if you want something easy to share or snack on casually.

What really stood out during my visit was how the sides elevate the whole meal. The Curry Sauce and Chips bring that rich, savory kick that pairs perfectly with the crispiness of the chips. Then there’s the Reg Chips Large Battered SOS Pea Fritter Beans and Gravy-a hearty, comforting combo that feels like a full meal on its own. What customers say?

“ My wife and I have been to every fish and chip shop in Arnold not a one can offer the consistency and friendly service that Jamie and his staff do. We travel from Rise Park every week for the FINEST fish and chips in Arnold and beyond and have never had a meal that we haven’t absolutely enjoyed. Jamie, his father and mother care passionately about what they do and it shows in the food they produce. The continual stream of other regulars illustrates we are not the only satisfied customers. Update I’ve tried the large haddock and chips a couple of times now and what a feast it is even better than seaside chippies (what’s happening with them?) if the fish were any bigger you wouldn’t get them in the fryer and the taste is simply exquisite, a meal to satisfy your belly as well as your soul (no pun intended)! August 18 2023 still providing the best fish and chips in Arnold and the surrounding areas. Had cod bites chips and curry sauce, so good I could have eaten them twice ”

“ I have had to leave this review on my fiancee's account as I can only leave one on my own. This is the second time we have visited Arnold Traditional Fish Bar . The last time we went I had the large cod which was awesome and Sue had an equally awesome doner kebab. This time I went for the large haddock and chips and Sue had the mixed kebab. The haddock totally blew me away . Perfectly cooked, nearly two inches thick, beautiful large creamy flakes, and pure white all the way through. The only time I have ever had haddock like this is when I have been on one of my frequent visits to Whitby or York. I would happily put this on par or even above the haddock I have had in Whitby. The chips were once again awesome. Everything was cooked in proper beef dripping which enhanced the flavor even further. Sue's mixed kebab was also fantastic. She loved both the donor and the chicken tikka meats. The salad was super fresh and plentiful. We were warmly welcomed by both the owner and her son and had a great chat with them both as our food was being freshly cooked and prepared. I said this on my last review and I must say it again. We have tried many, many chip shops in our area and not one comes close to the quality and exceptional taste we have found at Arnold Traditional Fish Bar. We travel nearly 12 miles to get there and it is totally worth it. Many thanks to the staff for the fantastic service, the lovely welcome, and the exceptional food. See you next week. All the best Mark and Sue. ”

“ We went to Arnold Traditional Fish Bar for the first time tonight. I had Large cod and chips and my fiancee had donor kebab and chips. I usually never have fish and chips at home because the I have been spoiled with fish and chips from York.I lived in York for years and visit all my friends up there every couple of weeks so that's where I have my fish and chips. In York they still fry in beef dripping and being near the coast the fish is always fresh. The only place I could find down here that fried in beef dripping was Arnold Traditional Fish bar. We drove a 24 mile round trip to try them out. We were not disappointed. The service was beyond exceptional and the staff were superb. The food was absolutely excellent. The cod was thick, flakey, and cooked perfectly. The chips were awesome. This is how fish and chips should be cooked. Sue's Kebab was also excellent.Lots of salad and everything wrapped separately for our journey home. Without doubt this is the best chip shop within a 15 mile radius of our home and we have tried many! We will be back next week and I will be trying the haddock. Many thanks to the staff once again as they were brilliant. ”

“ Traditional family run chip shop cooking their food in beef dripping. Really tasty!! I've been here many times, and it's been consistently good. They care about the quality of the food they serve you, and you can taste it. It's my favorite chippy in Nottingham. ”

“ Been here a few times whilst visiting extendid family. They all had an Indian and I prefer a traditional tea. Haddock was excellent and lightly battered as I requested. Nice thick piece too. Chips also good and you could tell by the texture the oil used was decent. It's getting more difficult now especially when one is away from home territory to find quality chippies that concentrate on fish and chips. More and more double as kebab shops etc. This was a good experience and I would recommend and use again. ”

“ Delicious haddock and chips from a proper fish-n-chip shop. We always go here for fish and chips when we’re in Arnold. ”

“ Best chip shop in Arnold by a mile! The fish is always freshly prepared when you order it, so it's always hot with nice crispy batter. Top marks from me. And the portions are big too! ”
